Dona Juana

In 1987 at the Doll, Toy & Miniature show at the Hacienda Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ruth Grava was awarded the title of "Best of the show" by choice of the people, winning more than 70% of the votes.

Dona Juana de Salinas ( 1553-1608 ) This young aristocrat is richly costumed and jeweled and a ruff of frothy lace frames her face. We are reminded that during this period Spain set the fashion trends. The personality of the sitter is in no way overpowered by the elaborate dress; her eyes engage us directly with a confident and slightly amused expression.

The doll maker is therefore the one who turns make believe into reality, dreams into wonderful living adventures and brings to life our favorite cast of heroes, heroines and villains.
