A projected vaccine to help the body to look for and to destroy cerebral tumors seems to affect the immune system, helping in the prevention of cancer. The result is from a group the Jonsson Cancer Center, at the University of California in Los Angeles (USA).

Rats treated with the vaccine had not only been cured of their tumors, as also they had also fought the illness when the researchers tried to infect them with cancerous cells.

The strategy is still far from being used in human beings, but it opens new possibilities in the field of vaccines for tumors. The research, done with 344 animals, was published in the magazine " Cancer Research " (cancerres.aacrjournals.org).
